Eight Arrested in Kiembeni for Property Theft, Police Recover Stolen Items

Police in Mombasa County have arrested eight suspects, aged between 14 and 22, in connection with a spate of property thefts in the Kiembeni area. The suspects are currently in custody at the Kiembeni Police Station following a successful operation led by law enforcement officials.  
Addressing the press, Mombasa County Police Commander Peter Kimani, accompanied by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), commended members of the public for providing vital information that led to the arrests.  

The operation, which began with a tip-off from a confidential informant, saw three suspects apprehended on the night of the operation. Additional suspects who fled to Kilifi County were tracked down and arrested shortly after. The suspects revealed the location of their hideout, enabling officers to recover stolen property, including five mobile phones, laptops, five pangas, and a club believed to have been used in criminal activities.  

Commander Kimani urged victims of theft to visit Kiembeni Police Station to record statements and assist in the investigation. He emphasized that all eight suspects would face robbery charges, which carry sentences ranging from 14 years to life imprisonment upon conviction.

“Gangs operating on bodabodas are on our radar, and we are closing in on their networks, including where they dispose of stolen goods,” Kimani stated. He warned the public against purchasing second-hand electronics, cautioning that such items could be stolen property.  

One of the suspects is also linked to a violent attack on a bodaboda rider in which the victim’s hands were chopped off. Others have been implicated in attacks on tourists in vehicles, further underscoring the gang’s menace in the region.  

Commander Kimani assured residents that the police are committed to dismantling criminal networks in the Coast Region and called for continued cooperation from the public to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

In a landmark move to integrate Islamic and Arabic languages into national vocational training, Sheikh Siraj Rahman College of Islamic Studies held a stakeholder meeting with TVET Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) to chart the development of a curriculum for levels 3 to 6 — covering certificate and diploma programs.
