PWDs Call for Inclusion and End to Discrimination in Mombasa Ahead of International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The Special Needs Alliance hosted a gathering at ACK Mombasa Memorial Cathedral Church today to honor the global commemoration of persons living with disabilities (PWDs). The event, which included prayers, mass, and distribution of food aid, spotlighted the challenges faced by PWDs and emphasized the urgent need for their empowerment, inclusion in governance, and access to essential services. Peter Mwanangina, chairperson of the Special Needs Alliance, addressed the media during the event, decrying systemic discrimination against PWDs in Mombasa County. Mwanangina highlighted issues including lack of empowerment, limited job opportunities, and inadequate health services. He specifically accused the county government of marginalizing individuals who are not of Indian or Arab descent, calling for immediate action to address these disparities.
