NCA Sensitizes Mombasa Stakeholders on New 2024 Construction Regulations

The National Construction Authority (NCA) has embarked on an initiative to sensitize stakeholders in the construction sector in Mombasa County about the newly implemented 2024 construction regulations. The regulations, approved last year, came into effect in March 2025 and aim to enhance the quality of construction to curb building collapses.  
Speaking during a stakeholders' meeting, Engineer Godana Hargura emphasized the importance of the new regulations in promoting professionalism and accountability within the construction industry.  

“These regulations outline strategies to be followed by construction stakeholders, emphasizing accountability and the involvement of professionals recognized by the laws of regulatory institutions governing their practice,” said Engineer Hargura.  

The new guidelines replace previous regulations and are designed to ensure that all construction projects adhere to high standards of quality and safety. They also encourage the development of environmentally friendly buildings, aligning with the country's sustainability goals.  
Engineer Hargura noted that the sensitization initiative is crucial to familiarizing industry players with the regulations to ensure smooth compliance. “Our goal is to reduce cases of building collapses and ensure that quality standards are maintained across all construction projects,” he added.  

The NCA plans to extend the sensitization program to 14 counties during the first phase, aiming to reach as many stakeholders as possible. This proactive approach is expected to foster a safer and more sustainable construction environment nationwide.  

Industry stakeholders have lauded the NCA’s efforts, expressing optimism that the new regulations will significantly improve construction practices and enhance safety in the sector.

In a landmark move to integrate Islamic and Arabic languages into national vocational training, Sheikh Siraj Rahman College of Islamic Studies held a stakeholder meeting with TVET Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) to chart the development of a curriculum for levels 3 to 6 — covering certificate and diploma programs.
