President Ruto Fires Justin Muturi in First Cabinet Reshuffle After Broad-Based Government Talks

President William Ruto has made significant changes to his Cabinet, dismissing Justin Muturi from the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes. Muturi has been replaced by Mbeere North MP Hon. Geoffrey Ruku in a move that follows weeks of tension between him and the president.  
Muturi, who previously served as Attorney General before his transfer to the ministry, had recently fallen out with Ruto. Their relationship reportedly soured after Muturi’s son was abducted, and he failed to receive satisfactory answers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Inspector General of Police. Days before his removal, Ruto had publicly referred to him as fairly "incompetent" Attorney General, signaling an impending shake-up.  

The reshuffle also saw Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale moved to the Ministry of Health, while Dr. Deborah Mulongo was transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. Additionally, Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, the widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage.  

This is the first Cabinet reshuffle since President Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga began discussions on broad-based government. The restructuring is expected to shape the administration's policy direction amid ongoing political negotiations and governance reforms.

Islamic and Arabic Studies to Gain Ground in TVET Curriculum as Stakeholders Push for Recognition

In a landmark move to integrate Islamic and Arabic languages into national vocational training, Sheikh Siraj Rahman College of Islamic Studies held a stakeholder meeting with TVET Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) to chart the development of a curriculum for levels 3 to 6 — covering certificate and diploma programs. The meeting, which brought together educators, curriculum developers, and religious leaders, aimed to pave the way for the formal inclusion of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Arabic studies into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.
