Coca-cola Makes Travel Personal for Madaraka Day Celebration with ‘Share a Coke’ Campaign
As Kenyans gear up for Madaraka Day celebrations, Coca-Cola has rolled out a heartwarming initiative aimed at making travel during the holiday more joyful and memorable. The company’s renowned ‘Share a Coke’ campaign is taking center stage with personalized surprises for passengers on the move across Kenya and into Uganda.
In a spirited activation, over 1,000 travellers boarding Easy Coach buses to destinations in western Kenya and Kampala will receive two custom-labelled Coke cans—one for themselves and another to share with loved ones. The gesture is designed to transform everyday travel into cherished moments.
Paul Oloo, Senior Manager of Communications at Coca-Cola East and Central Africa Franchise, highlighted the goal of the campaign, saying it seeks to "turn ordinary trips into memorable journeys filled with smiles, stories and shared experiences."

Meanwhile, at Jambojet check-in counters, passengers heading to Mombasa, Ukunda, Malindi, and Kisumu are also being surprised with their own personalized Coke cans—adding a refreshing touch to the flying experience from take-off to landing.
In a statement shared with media on Friday, Coca-Cola emphasized its commitment to creating joyful experiences for travellers, noting that this year's Madaraka Day activations are designed to spread happiness in unexpected ways.
Beyond transportation hubs, the campaign is expanding to malls, colleges, eateries, and other public venues across the country. Consumers can not only find personalized Coke bottles in stores and entertainment venues but also participate in engaging activities tied to the campaign.
Coca-Cola relaunched the global “Share a Coke” initiative in Kenya this April, reintroducing bottles and cans featuring individual names in place of the traditional brand logo. Originally launched in 2011, the campaign encourages people to connect through simple, shared moments—a message that resonates strongly in today's fast-paced, digital-first world.
Now targeting a younger generation, especially Gen Z, the campaign also has a strong presence on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Users are encouraged to share their ‘Share a Coke’ moments using the hashtag **#ShareaCoke**, bridging the gap between online interactions and real-world connections.
As Madaraka Day approaches, Coca-Cola’s campaign is not only adding a touch of personalization to travel but also reviving the spirit of togetherness—reminding Kenyans that sometimes, a name on a bottle is all it takes to brighten someone’s day.
