Natembeya Embarks on Western Kenya Rallies Amid Legal Troubles

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has kicked off a whirlwind tour across Western Kenya, marking his first major public appearance since facing legal charges last week.

The governor touched down at Kisumu International Airport early Monday morning before setting off on a tightly packed schedule that includes stopovers and roadside rallies in multiple counties. His journey, backed by the Tawe Movement, is set to culminate in a grand homecoming event in Kitale later this afternoon.

According to a statement posted by his party, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), Natembeya passed through Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties, addressing crowds in towns such as Luanda, Chavakali, Malava, Webuye, Bungoma, Chwele, Kimilili, Kamukuywa, and Kiminini.

Party officials and supporters welcomed him upon arrival in Kisumu, underscoring the enthusiasm surrounding his return. The Kitale event, billed as both a homecoming and a prayer meeting, is expected to focus on themes of unity, faith, and grassroots development.
This tour marks Governor Natembeya's first trip back to his home county since he was arraigned in court on May 20, 2025. He denied all charges against him and was released on a cash bail of Sh500,000. The court also issued a directive barring him from accessing his office for a period of 60 days.

Natembeya now becomes the second high-profile DAP-K figure to be arrested in recent days, following a spate of legal woes targeting the opposition party, which is led by former Cabinet Minister Eugene Wamalwa.

Speaking to residents in Ruanda, Natembeya reaffirmed his commitment to the *Tawe Movement*, saying it was a platform to address pressing issues such as hunger, joblessness, and poverty.

His Kitale rally is expected to draw various opposition leaders in a show of solidarity amid growing political tension in the region.

Meanwhile, in Kakamega Town on Saturday, police used teargas to break up a gathering of the DCP party, associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Among those affected was DCP deputy party leader and former Kakamega Senator, Cleophas Malala.

As political temperatures rise, all eyes remain on Kitale this evening as Natembeya prepares to address his supporters and solidify his political base.
