Wamuchomba and Onyonka Slam UDA Over Orwoba Ouster
Gathunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka have lashed out at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for dismissing nominated senator Gloria Orwoba from the party, calling the move petty and unjustified.

Speaking to the media during the ICPAK conference in Mombasa, Wamuchomba questioned the party's double standards, accusing it of targeting Orwoba for associating with former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i, while turning a blind eye to President William Ruto’s continued engagement with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
"If associating with Matiang’i led to Gloria Orwoba's outcast, then the president should also be removed from the party as he has associated himself with Raila who is his opponent," Wamuchomba stated.
She challenged the president’s actions, questioning why he was not subjected to similar treatment by the party. "Raila keeps rejecting you, he keeps saying he's not in the government and you're still forcing yourself in him. He has been clear all day that he is not in the government, and William Ruto keeps saying he's in the government. Why haven't we punished you for associating yourself with him?" she posed.
The MP further called out UDA for allegedly mistreating female leaders, pointing to a pattern of hostility towards Orwoba. "It's not the first time the UDA have mistreated Gloria," she said, demanding that the party leadership show respect for women.
Wamuchomba also backed Orwoba’s initiative to provide sanitary towels to schoolgirls a campaign she said aligned with President Ruto’s own campaign promises. "Gloria went beyond and helped girls to get these things that you actually promised them and failed to keep," she remarked.
In a strong show of solidarity, Wamuchomba declared her support for Matiang’i, who is expected to vie for presidency in the 2027 general election stating, "By the way, I support Matiang’i all the way. He's my friend and he's been my friend even during the last government."
Senator Richard Onyonka echoed Wamuchomba’s sentiments, accusing UDA of intolerance. He noted that while some members of ODM disagreed with the party’s agreement with the Kenya Kwanza to form broad based government, they were not punished a contrast to how UDA handled Orwoba’s case.
"Being a democratic republic, we expect anyone to associate with anybody, say anything irrespective of their stand," he said.
Onyonka directly blamed President Ruto for Orwoba’s troubles, saying, "Our leaders should be tolerant. You firing someone for associating with your opponent is petty, and I condemn it with the strongest terms possible."
The matter is currently in court, and both leaders expressed hope that justice would prevail, allowing Senator Orwoba to continue serving the public.
