Women Empowerment Meeting in Nyali Highlights Kenya Kwanza’s Achievements, Sparks Political Jabs
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, alongside other leaders, attended a vibrant women empowerment and resource mobilization event in Nyali Constituency, Mombasa County, hosted by Mombasa Women Representative Zamzam Mohammed. The event, aimed at uplifting small businesses, also served as a platform for Kenya Kwanza leaders to showcase their achievements and take sharp jabs at opposition figures for criticizing the current administration.

Kindiki highlighted transformative infrastructure projects in the coastal region, underscoring the government’s commitment to Mombasa’s economic growth, a critical hub as Kenya’s gateway. Key projects include the dualling of the Nyali-Mtwapa-Kilifi Road, the Changamwe-Jomvu-Mazeras-Mariakani Highway, and the completion of the Dongo Kundu Bypass. These initiatives aim to bolster connectivity and economic activity in the region.
The blue economy received significant attention, with Kindiki noting the near completion of the KSh 78 million Likoni Fish Market and the KSh 175 million Kidongo Fish Landing Site. These projects are poised to enhance livelihoods for Mombasa residents dependent on the fishing industry. Additionally, the KSh 6 billion Nyali Affordable Housing Project and the construction of Jomvu, Sega, and Changamwe markets were cited as game-changers for micro and small enterprise owners, providing dignified business spaces.
Kindiki also announced that the KSh 41 billion Mombasa Port Expansion and Modernization Project is set to commence within the next two to three months, promising to elevate Mombasa’s role as a regional trade hub.
The event celebrated Mombasa County’s leadership in healthcare access, with Kindiki commending the county government and residents for achieving the highest registration in Taifa Care, Kenya’s Universal Health Insurance program. Nearly 900,000 of Mombasa’s 1.1 million residents—75% of the population—are enrolled, making Mombasa the top county in both percentage and absolute numbers.
Kindiki, warmly received by attendees, argued that these achievements justify a second term for the Kenya Kwanza government, emphasizing its focus on development and inclusivity.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, also the ODM deputy party leader, stirred the crowd with a message from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is currently abroad addressing health concerns. Nassir relayed Odinga’s greetings and took a swipe at detractors, stating, “Those who wished him bad luck on his health should be ashamed and worry once he returns.” Recent social media images showing Odinga in good health have fueled speculation about his imminent return. Nassir boldly declared that ODM would never again settle for opposition status, vowing to either form or be part of the next government.
Host Zamzam Mohammed, seeking re-election as Mombasa County Women Representative, praised Deputy President Kindiki for his unifying leadership. She accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of attempting to divide the country along tribal lines, crediting herself and other leaders for preventing such fragmentation. Zamzam dismissed the opposition’s prospects, asserting, “They lack what it takes to wrest power from Kenya Kwanza.”
The resource mobilization effort for Nyali’s small businesses was a resounding success, raising over KSh 7 million to support local entrepreneurs.
The event underscored both the developmental strides of the Kenya Kwanza administration and the intensifying political rhetoric as the country gears up for future elections.
