David Munyua Makes History: First Kenyan to Win at the World Darts Championship

Kenya’s David Munyua has etched his name in sporting history after a sensational debut at the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra in Palace, London On December 18, 2025. 

The 30-year-old veterinary doctor stunned the darts world by coming from 0-2 down to defeat world #18 Mike De Decker of Belgium, 3-2.
This victory is historic not only is Munyua the first Kenyan to compete at the tournament, but he is also the first to win a match. Despite losing the first two sets, he fought back with remarkable composure, winning the next two sets in deciding legs, and sealing the final set with a spectacular 135 checkout.

Speaking after his win, Munyua, shared his excitement:
"It’s going crazy back in Kenya—everybody is like 'we did it!' Darts is a simple game; all you need is a room, a board, and some darts. I hope it grows in Africa as it has here."

De Decker praised Munyua for his outstanding performance but criticized the crowd for booing and whistling, saying such behavior should never be normalized in professional darts.

Looking ahead, Munyua will face either Kevin Doets of the Netherlands or Matthew Dennant of England in the second round. Fans and supporters will be watching closely to see if Kenya’s darts pioneer can continue his remarkable run.
