UDA Leaders Rally in Mombasa, Assert Dominance and Push for President Ruto’s Re-election Ahead of 2027

Senior United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders gathered in Mombasa today for a high-energy rally focused on grassroots mobilization, party unity, and preparation for the 2027 General Election. The event highlighted UDA’s growing confidence along the Coast and featured sharp political jabs at the opposition.

UDA Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan directly addressed critics from ODM, declaring: “Do not tell us about your strongholds, the people of Mombasa have suffered in your hands.” He challenged the ODM Officials, asking, “Why are you scared?” His remarks underscored UDA’s determination to contest across all regions, dismissing traditional “stronghold” claims by some of Orange Democratic Movement.

Lamu Governor and UDA Deputy Party Leader Issa Timamy took a bold stance on party nominations, stating that anyone wishing to vie against UDA candidates “shouldn’t worry, you’ll have a ticket in every position in the country.” His comment signaled the party’s openness to broad participation while reinforcing UDA’s organizational strength.

Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa urged both ODM and UDA factions to prioritize President William Ruto’s re-election above all else. She argued that debates over party strongholds ultimately belong to the citizens, not the parties themselves. Jumwa added: “You should know it, it was Raila who made this love stand, he’s no more, and everyone is for Ruto.” Her statement appeared to reference shifting political alliances following the end of the broad opposition unity once led by Raila Odinga.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi assured members of his former party, the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA), that they could vie for positions through UDA. He explained that PAA had decided to merge and “join power together” with UDA to better secure and expand their influence in their traditional bases. Kingi’s remarks aligned with recent reports of PAA folding into UDA as part of broader Coast-region realignments.

The rally forms part of UDA’s ongoing Coast sensitization and popularization tour, which has included stops in Lamu, Kwale, and other counties. Leaders used the platform to emphasize development gains under the Kenya Kwanza administration and to criticize the opposition for allegedly lacking a clear agenda while the current government works to “fix” challenges inherited from previous leadership.

Timamy specifically jabbed at the United opposition, saying Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga (RG)“will not go back to power ever again, since they’ve messed the country up for the Kenya Kwanza Government to fix.”

The event reflects UDA’s aggressive push to penetrate former opposition zones along the Coast while consolidating support for President Ruto’s 2027 bid. With grassroots elections underway and defections reportedly increasing, party officials project stronger unity and wider candidate fielding in the coming polls.

This mobilization comes amid ongoing national debates on political “zoning” versus open competition, with UDA leaders signaling they will not be restricted by historical regional strongholds.
